I never met Uncle Ted because he died before I was born, but I knew that he was a WWII fighter pilot who was shot down and killed in North Africa. The second part of the family story was that he killed the German who killed him and that sounded like a myth to me. But it’s not. I researched, traveled to Germany, met Joachim Müncheberg’s uncles, and wrote a book about these two young men who killed each other. Here’s a short video about the book: Sons at War. It’s free. You don’t have to buy anything or sign in, but you might use it as a meditation this weekend. While Memorial Day has become a fun-filled holiday with picnics and parades, we should, I think, take a moment to reflect on those who paid for our freedom with their lives.

Perfect message to send this Memorial Day weekend. We all need to remember the price paid by others so we can live free. Thanks Jane!
Wow Jane! I didn’t see this video when you wrote the book. It is fantastic, really brings the reality of war and family and circumstance together. So beautifully done by your daughter. And your voice is so professional, you could be an actor. I’ve sent it on to all of my family members to watch.
